In the center of Kyiv, a statue of Berehynia stands as a protectress to the Ukrainian nation. April explains that she was created by the people of the Ukraine to represent a beautiful and independent hearth goddess. As the Ukrainian people established themselves as an autonomous country, they also created new ways to express their independence. A statue of Berehynia was commissioned in the 1990’s as part of this Neo-paganism movement.
